Keep reading for all the insight!
Hair Type Matters
Your hair type has a huge influence on how dry or oily your hair gets. Every hair type needs different products so it only makes sense that the washing schedule would be different too. Thicker hair can usually go longer without cleansing, while thin hair tends to get dirty and oily quicker. With curly hair, since it tends to be on the dry side, you can usually go longer without washing but straight hair usually requires more frequent washing.
Lifestyle & Activity
Your lifestyle and activity level definitely have an influence on your hair washing schedule. If you’re always hitting the gym and staying active, you should definitely wash your hair more often. This is because sweat piles up and clogs your pores which obviously dirties your scalp faster.
Brunettes Are Lucky
Do you have dark hair? If so, consider washing your hair only twice a week regardless of what type or texture your hair is. Washing brunette hair too often will make it lose pigmentation. The pigments in darker hair help hair look less oily. So for darker hair to keep its natural shine, it’s best to not shampoo as much.
When in Doubt, Dry Shampoo
It can be annoying to constantly have to think about when you’re going to wash your hair next and have to balance our your hair’s health with its appearance. This is where dry shampoo comes in! Dry shampoo absorbs dirt, dust, and oil which makes it a great quick fix. If you want to go another day without washing your hair but you have a work meeting to look nice for, dry shampoo saves the day. Dry shampoo will leave your hair fresh, clean, and smelling lovely!
So, How Often Should I Wash My Hair?
As mentioned above, it all depends on the type of hair you have. For dry hair types consider washing your hair twice a week. For more oily hair, you might have to wash around four times a week or even on a daily basis depending on how much oil your scalp produces. You likely know your hair well enough to know when it needs to be washed versus when it can probably go another day or two without a wash. Trust yourself and your hair!
